History is not an exact science. Today, nobody will say, Hust city has got its name from the castle or otherwise, Hust (or Hustov) Castle was named after a town in trans-Carpathian region. It is known that here in the 11th century a settlement and a castle were laid. Then the castle became new fortress of Hungarian kings.

Archaeologists, demonstrating their findings, state that settlements on the territory of modern city existed in the IX century.

Historians say that its construction began in times of the Hungarian King Ladislav, namely in 1090, and it was finished in the end of XII century.

The stones used for construction were fastened with the help of lime solution, glair and sheep cheese were also added. This gave unusual strength.

People suffered from hunger, because all chicken, goose, duck eggs were used in the castle construction.

When everything was ready, voivode Hust settled the castle.

Scientists state that in XIV century these lands belonged to two brothers from Maramoroshy clan, one of whom was Drag (or Drago).

The famous Earl is also Vlad. He is considered to be the prototype of the famous character created by Bram Stoker. After his death the castle was left derelict.
